1,3-Butanediol：

1. Used as raw material of polyester resin, alkyd resin, unsaturated polyester made by mixing with 1,3-butanediol or ethylene glycol, has good water resistance, softness and impact resistance.

2. with it’s  low volatility, migration resistance, soap and water resistance, solvent resistance and oil resistance properties it could be used as raw material for plasticizer, polyester-based plasticizer made from 1,3-butanediol and dibasic acid (adipic acid), .

3. Used as raw material for polyurethane coating, as raw material for saturated polyester for polyurethane coating, it could enhance water resistance in final lacquer, which is better than the effect of using other diols.

4. Used as wetting agent and softener, 1,3-butanediol has excellent moisturizing property and low toxicity, after being made into ester, it can be used as wetting and softener for cigarette, celluloid, vinylon film, paper and fiber, etc.

5. Used as a solvent for fine chemicals, it can be used in the formulation of make-up, creams,  and toothpastes, etc.

6.1,3-Butanediol is also an intermediate of medicine and dyestuff.
