Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), also known as 2-propanol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula of C3H8O. It is an isomer of n-propanol. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a smell similar to the mixture of ethanol and acetone. It can be soluble in water, alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform and other organic solvents.

Isopropyl alcohol is an important chemical product and raw material, mainly used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, spices, coatings, etc.

Purpose:

1. As chemical raw materials, it can produce acetone, hydrogen peroxide, methyl isobutyl ketone, diisobutyl ketone, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, isopropyl chloride, isopropyl fatty acid and isopropyl chlorinated fatty acid, etc. In fine chemical industry, it can be used to produce isopropyl nitrate, isopropyl xanthate, triisopropyl phosphite, aluminum isopropoxide, medicines and pesticides, etc., and also can be used to produce diisocetone, isopropyl acetate, thymol and gasoline additives.

2. As a solvent, it is a relatively cheap solvent in industry. It has a wide range of uses, and can be freely mixed with water. It has a stronger solubility for lipophilic substances than ethanol. It can be used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, rubber, paint, shellac, alkaloids, etc. It can be used to produce coatings, inks, extractants, aerosols, etc. It can also be used as antifreeze, cleaner, additive for blending gasoline, dispersant for pigment production, fixative for printing and dyeing industry Antifogging agent for glass and transparent plastic, used as thinner for adhesive, antifreeze, dehydrating agent, etc.

3. It is used as chromatographic analysis standard to determine barium, calcium, copper, magnesium, nickel, potassium, sodium, strontium, nitrite, cobalt, etc.

4. In the electronic industry, it can be used as a cleaning and degreasing agent.
